WHAT IS LUCK?
Typically, it's the apparent desirable ("good luck") or undesirable ("bad luck") outcome that is brought by chance rather than by effort.
But since what is desirable and undesirable differ from person to person, luck, to a certain degree, is debatable, and so the reputation of Friday the 13th being a day of "bad luck" is also something to consider: who said this day is "bad luck", and why is it defined as "bad"?
Friday, being the day of Venus (a day belonging to a Goddess), 13, being a number of non-conformity (12 is typically seen in many spiritual and religious systems as the number of the highest order - as it parallels to the months; is divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12) and the spiral - as with 12 you can always return to where you started (making a "perfect" circle), but with 13 you can never return to the exact same place, though it being a prime number, it cannot divide itself other than with itself as the whole (1, 13). What sort of systems would tell you that non-conformity and spirals are of "bad luck"? Who benefits from this belief being perpetuated?
One last thing I wanted to share about "bad luck"...
I've been fighting off a cold this week, but was rather stubborn and resistant about resting. Then these things happened:
My computer crashed.
I (attempted to) prepare some Tea while it was being rebooted, and the oddest thing was the Tea (an Oolong) I placed in my teapot was not the Tea (a herbal tisane of Holy Basil, Rose, and Lemonbalm) that flowed out. A caffeinated drink meant to keep me "going" was inexplicably (and without my awareness) replaced with a herbal blend designed to soothe the nervous system to promote rest.
Rather than taking that a cue, I proceed to return to my home office (located in its own building in my yard), and cannot locate my key. I tore apart my home for 30 mins looking for it, and it turned out that it was exactly where I had first looked, next to my pot of herbal allies.
When I returned to my office, my computer rebooted, but a key on my keyboard was stuck.
Bad luck?
Or perhaps my spirit allies were lovingly nudging me to take the day off?
Good luck sometimes involves noticing the uncanny, and trusting the unknown.
